Job Title: Director of Mechanical Engineering Date:

Supervisory relationships
Reports to: Senior Director of Engineering - Shenzhen
Supervises:
Essential Responsibilities:
? Lead a team of mechanical and tooling engineers to develop consumer audio products ranging from
portable wireless and home networked audio to headphones and after-market car audio products.
? Continue to develop team’s competency including advanced finite element analysis simulation, new
material and MFG process application to speakers and high-quality large-volume tooling design
? Develop a clear implementation plan to enable dual-resourcing (tooling) strategy on extreme high-volume
products with specific but practical design rule and quality criteria as a result of close collaboration with
Quality team
? Serve as a mechanical system architect and the most senior technical staff to lead the team to solve
complex mechanical design problems to achieve best tradeoff among cost, yield and acoustic/EE
performance throughout the life cycle of the project
? Collaborate closely with in-house industry design team to push the envelope of the technology while
ensuring at the same time that the design can be commercially realized cost-effectively
? Set and maintain mechanical quality standard for Harman consumer audio products; apply lean design
principle and tools to create design guideline based on functions, features, operating environment and
service requirement to minimize quality risks
? Lead innovation in mechanical design, new material design, process and packaging that enables Harman
product to become “Industry-First” in its category
? Work jointly with SQE to develop or monitor ODM or critical component suppliers on-site to ensure design
and manufacturing issues are addressed in the timely basis and their true CPK value meets Harman
production requirement
? Be able to hire, develop and retain top talents
? Fully comply to Harman compliance policy and hold higher ethical standards for himself/herself and the
team
Basic Qualifications:
? BS or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering; MS is a plus
? Excellent people management skill preferably in a MNC, able to hire, coach and develop mechanical
engineers for better design practice and result;
? Proven track record of successfully delivering large-volume CE products in the market place, preferably in
consumer audio space
? Hands-on experience in working with ODMs and CE supply base of tool makers and plastic injection
vendors;
? Strong knowledge in final assembly and secondary process such as metal color finishing and IPX7
? Experienced in driving DFM process internally and externally with key vendors and ODMs
? Know the right balance between near term NPI execution and long term technology development needs for
the organi
